Should I act dumber than I am to make friends easier?

Acting dumber than you are will only attract dumb, shallow people. Neither answer one or two is effective. When asked a question-answer it briefly. If more information is required they'll let you know. Premature elaboration comes off as showy. Mention that you are knowledgeable on a particular subject and if they ask for details you can proceed to explain in more depth.
